Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

A Geographic Information System, or GIS, is a computer system that combines digital maps with data that describes features on a map. 

GIS is a collection of layers that can be linked together by geography. Each layer has a theme showing a different type of information allowing the user to better understand how it all interrelates.
