On Sunday, Dec. 4, members of the Victoria Fire Department and Victoria Police Department joined forces to play in a charity basketball game at the Faith Academy gym against employees of the United States Postal Service. Community members came out to support both teams as they raised funds for the local Food Bank of the Golden Crescent and collected gifts for Toys for Tots. The Victoria West cheerleaders were in the stands cheering on the teams and getting the crowd excited. Although the officers and firefighters did not come away with the win, the players had fun while benefiting local organizations. The event raised $1,500 and 170 pounds of food for the food bank and 20 gifts for Toys for Tots. Fire Chief Tracy Fox and USPS organizer Robert Alvarez hope to turn the charity game into an annual event.
