Victoria Fire Department to host EMT training course, Fire Academy

Residents will have a chance to earn their emergency medical technician certifications close to home as the Victoria Fire Department partners with the Magnolia Beach Volunteer Fire Department to host an EMT-B training course.

The program will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays Jan. 8-26, 2024, at the Victoria Fire Department training facility at 1411 SW Ben Jordan St. An optional pre-registration information session will be hosted at the facility at 6 p.m. Dec. 18.

The course consists of classroom and hands-on instruction in the emergency medical services field, including supervised experiences with a licensed EMS provider. Once the course is completed, students will have the opportunity to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam to earn their emergency medical technician certifications.

Jan. 8 through 26 8 to 5“We’re excited to be able to partner with the Magnolia Beach VFD to offer this program to our residents,” said Victoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Dana Woodward. “We hope to attract plenty of talented local applicants looking to pursue rewarding careers with the Victoria Fire Department or another agency.”

The cost to attend is $1,275. The program textbook is included.

Application forms may be downloaded at www.victoriatx.gov/emtb or picked up at Victoria Fire Department Station One, 606 E. Goodwin Ave. Applicants may also contact the Victoria Fire Department at vfdtraining@victoriatx.gov to request a copy.

Completed application forms must be mailed to Magnolia Beach VFD, P.O. Box 318, Port Lavaca, TX 77979; emailed to training.mbvfd@gmail.com; or dropped off at one of the following locations:

  • The Victoria Fire Department training facility, 1411 SW Ben Jordan St.
  • Victoria Fire Department Station One, 606 E. Goodwin Ave.
  • The Magnolia Beach VFD Training and Resource Center, 873 Margie Tewmey Road, Magnolia Beach

The course will be limited to 25 students. The deadline to apply is Dec. 31.

Fire Academy applications open

The Victoria Fire Department is also accepting applications for its spring 2024 Fire Academy.

Classes will be held Monday-Thursday Jan. 9-May 15, 2024. After finishing the course, students will have the opportunity to take the National Firefighter Selection Inventory exam, which is used by firefighting agencies to screen applicants.

The cost to attend is $2,800 and includes uniforms, required books, and study materials.
