Residents will be able to determine the direction of the forthcoming downtown master plan by responding to a preliminary survey that asks residents about their priorities and vision for Victoria’s historic downtown.
“Collecting data will help us to identify residents’ wants and needs and develop an actionable plan based on those needs,” said Danielle Williams, director of the City of Victoria Main Street Program. “We want to create a plan that will show Victoria residents what downtown can be and how we will get there.”
Residents have until Jan. 15 to complete the survey at www.victoriatx.gov/masterplans. The interactive survey invites residents to list their priorities for downtown; rate the importance of different proposed features; identify problems, opportunities and ideas; and share other information about their perception of downtown. Residents are encouraged to share the survey on social media so that others will have an opportunity to respond.
The City has received more than 300 responses to the survey. Williams said a report from master plan consultant Freese and Nichols has identified trends in the initial responses, including a desire for more things to do downtown and interest in safety and preserving downtown’s history.
The Victoria Main Street Program plans to host future opportunities for public involvement, including two open house sessions tentatively scheduled for March 1 and May 2 and a second, more detailed survey focused on the priorities identified in the first survey. The second survey is scheduled to go live in June. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
Officials expect that a final version of the master plan will be adopted in August.
