The two occupants of a 2018 Chevy Traverse that was in a wreck May 5 are currently in intensive care at Brooke Army Medical Center.
The wreck occurred about 5 p.m. May 5. The Traverse was traveling southbound on North Main Street and turning left onto Spring Creek Drive while a Victoria Fire Department ambulance with three occupants was traveling northbound in the inside lane on Main Street. The two vehicles collided when the Traverse failed to yield the right of way.
All three occupants of the ambulance were firefighters with the Victoria Fire Department. The ambulance was returning from a call at the time and was not carrying a patient.
Due to the impact of the crash, the ambulance left the roadway, went through a small field and came to rest in a pond. The three firefighters were able to exit the ambulance, swim to safety and immediately render aid to the two passengers in the Traverse.
The three firefighters were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and were released Thursday.
The Victoria Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
The ambulance was removed from the pond May 6 and has been transported to a City facility for assessment.
