The City of Victoria Municipal Court is using a new email encryption software, Zix, to send emails that contain sensitive information.
The software will primarily be used to send emails to attorneys, but Municipal Court Administrator Tiffany Totah explained that it could also be used for emailing other residents depending on the type of information being sent.
“Residents often ask us to send them documents related to their cases, and some of them contain identifying information like driver’s license numbers,” Totah said. “This software will give those emails an extra layer of protection.”
Residents who receive emails from the Zix secure email system will be prompted to create an account with a password to view their emails.
Totah explained that the court has been focusing more on cybersecurity in recent years because of the rise in cybercrime and because of the post-pandemic demand for digital services.
